The food processing sector ranks 1st in terms of employment and number of factories in operation and 3rd in terms of output
The industry has witnessed a growth 7.1% during 2013-14, much higher than the growth in agriculture sector and at par with the manufacturing sector

The sector has a total of 37,175 registered units with fixed capital of nearly USD 24 Billion and aggregate output of around USD 114 Billion. Major industries constituting the food processing sector are grains, sugar, edible oils, beverages and dairy products

A global event to facilitate partnerships between Indian and international businesses and investors, World Food India (WFI) is a gateway to the Indian food economy and an opportunity to showcase, connect, and collaborate.
Organized by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India, WFI will be the largest gathering of investors, manufacturers, producers, food processors, policymakers, and organizations from the global food ecosystem. It aims to provide opportunities for both investment and trade in the food processing sector for leading Indian and international companies. Encompassing the entire food spectrum from production to consumption, WFI is looking at creating a better sourcing environment, thereby enabling higher returns for farmers, creating employment, and fostering entrepreneurship.
